Coastal Mamba — Borealopelta markmitchelli
In 2017, the discovery of an exceptionally well-preserved dinosaur mummy completely changed our understanding of dinosaur coloration. Through microscopic analysis of pigment degradation products, scientists were able to reconstruct the color pattern of Borealopelta markmitchelli.
This nodosaurid dinosaur displayed a reddish-brown coloration across its back, gradually transitioning into lighter tones on the underside. This countershading pattern closely resembles the natural camouflage strategies seen in many modern animals. By reducing the appearance of body volume under natural light, this camouflage would have helped the dinosaur remain less visible to potential predators.
The discovery of Borealopelta markmitchelli provided one of the most important examples of body coloration in large ankylosaur-related dinosaurs, offering a rare glimpse into the appearance and survival strategies of prehistoric animals.
As the first new release from Greenhouse Revolution Studio, we have created this GK resin kit featuring Borealopelta markmitchelli in a descending pose. The design also allows the model to be displayed on a flat surface, providing more flexible display options for collectors.
