The Safari Carnegie Collection Carnotaurus, released in 1997, was likely an impressive sculpt for its time. It reflected the paleontological understanding of the late 20th century and carried the charm and educational intent that defined the Carnegie line. However, the contrast between that figure and the Haolonggood Carnotaurus released in 2023 is striking.
With twenty‑six years of scientific advancement separating the two, the Haolonggood interpretation benefits from a far more complete and refined understanding of abelisaurid anatomy, posture, and integument. The result is a figure of exceptional beauty and scientific fidelity. Both the paint application and sculpting are outstanding, capturing the animal with a level of precision and presence that sets a new benchmark for static Carnotaurus models.
While the Carnegie Carnotaurus retains nostalgic appeal and earns a respectable C tier in my ranking, the 2023 Haolonggood Carnotaurus stands firmly in S tier. It is, in my view, the strongest representation of the species currently available in a non‑articulated format.
