A subadult Meiolania platyceps has entered the territory of a mature individual and is being driven away, capturing a glimpse of territorial behavior and survival interactions from the lost ecosystems of the past. The dynamic details of the scene are carefully refined to recreate this prehistoric encounter.

Meiolania platyceps lived during the Pleistocene on Lord Howe Island, Australia. It was an extinct giant horned turtle belonging to the family Meiolaniidae, a unique group of terrestrial reptiles that evolved in isolation on ancient islands.

Unlike modern marine turtles, Meiolania platyceps was a fully terrestrial species. It inhabited island shrublands and coastal forests, feeding mainly on low-growing vegetation and fruits. With its massive horns, armored shell, and distinctive tail structure, it represents one of the most fascinating examples of island evolution.
